There are two main types of smoke alarms available for use in residential properties: SCSA will always give you at least 3 options for installation and pricing. We will inspect your property and advise on the type of alarms that we think should be fitted and where they should be installed.
Photoelectric Smoke Alarms $25.00
Photoelectric smoke alarms 'see' the smoke. They detect visible particles of combustion, e.g. smouldering cigarette smoke. They respond to a wide range of fires, but they are particularly responsive to smouldering fires and the dense smoke given off by foam filled furnishings or overheated PVC wiring.
Advantages:
- Good for smouldering fire and dense smoke
- Not as prone to cooking nuisance alarms as ionisation alarms
- Contain no radioactive material
- Suitable for general use
Ionisation Smoke Alarms from $20.00
Ionisation alarms are designed to detect the presence of extremely small particles of smoke that cannot be seen by the human eye. Ionisation alarms, because of their sensing mechanism, cannot tell the difference between particles of combustion, dust, very small bugs, and possibly even paint fumes and steam. So opening a gas oven, cooking toast, a new gas heater or an open fireplace can quite easily result in causing a false alarm in an ionisation unit. This is not a problem with the alarm, it is doing what it is designed to do. Ionisation alarms respond very quickly to hot, fast flaming fires.
South Coast Smoke Alarms recommends and uses both types of alarms - this is assessed by our technicians upon each visit to a property.
